Rugby Boots
How should rugby boots be?
Rugby is a very popular sport and in order to enjoy playing the same to the fullest, you will need quality shoes. Depending on your requirement, you can choose the best rugby boots from a wide range of choices. Be it the size, the design or the length, there are many alterations in such footwear and hence, it is better to know all about them before purchasing.
Ideally, rugby is played either on a soft ground or a firm ground. Therefore, there have to be two types of shoes as well. These are as follows:
The first ones are those that are ideal for a soft ground. These have screw in studs. The number of studs available is 6 or 8. Depending on the condition of the ground, these may be increased or decreased. When you require agility, 6 studs work well and when there is no need of constant movement, 8 studs can be screwed. Hence, a lot depends on the position of the player as well.
The second type of rugby shoes suit a firm ground. Naturally, they have more studs (12 or more). These provide more comfort to the players as the bottom of the feet will have more points of contact.
Also known as cleats, these studs are made of different materials. They can be leather, rubber, synthetic, etc. It is a fact that the ones with leather cleats are more durable than those that are made of synthetic fiber. However, they do not suit wet conditions. There are some shoes which have studs that are made with a mixture of both these.
The size of the shoes is another important element when it comes to comfort during play. The cut or height of these rugby boots matters the most and the choices are as follows:
Low – These shoes barely cover the ankle of the player. They are suited for those who have to move a lot on the field. The number of cleats is also less in these types.
Mid – The size of these shoes falls in between the low and the high.
High – They cover the entire ankles and provide them protection. Though they hinder movement, they are worn by those who do not have to be so agile on the field.
There are numerous well known companies that manufacture high quality rugby boots. Make sure you compare the prices before buying.
